Privacy Policy

Newsletter delivery and measurement

When you subscribe, we store your email address, signup source, and subscription status. Mailjet sends welcome emails and weekly digests. We record delivery outcomes and provider-reported opens, clicks, bounces, and unsubscribes to understand newsletter performance. These reports can include activity from email privacy proxies and automated tools.

Our newsletter event records contain no raw IP addresses or user agents. Delivery and event records are retained for up to 400 days. Test messages are excluded from audience statistics. You can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter.

Amazon affiliate click measurement

When you follow a Deals link, we record the time, deal, source surface, Deals page, site identity and destination store. Signed-in clicks may be linked to your account so we can recognize repeats. Anonymous clicks have no visitor identifier or tracking cookie. Affiliate records contain no raw IP address, full user agent, private page path or destination URL.

Records are retained for 400 days and removed by periodic cleanup. Account deletion clears the account link. These statistics measure outbound clicks and do not tell us about Amazon purchases or commission income.

Who we are

AI Signal is a practical AI intelligence site for developers, builders, and technical teams. This policy explains how we handle information when you browse the site, subscribe to the newsletter, or sign in.

What we collect

Depending on how you use AI Signal, we may collect:

  • Account information – name, email address, and profile image provided by your sign-in provider, Google or Facebook.
  • Newsletter details – your email address and subscription preferences when you join the newsletter.
  • Usage data – article views, active reading time, and scroll depth, counted per article and day without cookies (see Cookies and similar technologies below), used to understand content interest.
  • Technical and security data – IP address, request logs, and abuse-prevention signals captured by our hosting, authentication, and security providers.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Authenticate you and manage your account.
  • Send the newsletter and other communications you request.
  • Improve article quality, site performance, and editorial coverage.
  • Protect the service from abuse, spam, fraud, or security issues.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

Advertising

AI Signal does not currently display ads or load scripts from advertising networks. If we add advertising in the future, we will update this policy first and ask for any consent the law requires.

Cookies and similar technologies

AI Signal sets cookies only to sign you in and keep you signed in. We do not use advertising, analytics, or affiliate tracking cookies. If you read the site without starting to sign in, we do not set any cookies.

  • Sign-in session – authjs.session-token (prefixed __Secure- on HTTPS) holds a random session ID that keeps you signed in. It expires after 30 days of inactivity, or when you sign out.
  • Sign-in security – while you sign in with Google or Facebook, we set short-lived cookies that protect against forged requests and remember where to return you: authjs.csrf-token, authjs.callback-url, and authjs.state or authjs.pkce.code_verifier. The state and verifier cookies expire after 15 minutes; the others are cleared when you close your browser.
  • Theme preference – your light or dark theme is saved in your browser's local storage as ai-theme. It stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Article reading measurement is first-party and cookieless: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and uses no third-party analytics service. To count unique readers, our server combines your IP address and browser user agent with the date into a one-way hash that changes every day. If you are signed in, your existing sign-in session is used instead, so the hash is based on your account ID. These daily records contain no raw IP address or user agent and are deleted after 35 days. Reading measurement is skipped entirely if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal.

Deals links go through our own redirect, which sets no cookies. Once you reach Amazon, Amazon may set its own cookies, including to credit purchases to our affiliate link, under Amazon's privacy notice.

Earlier versions of the site saved an ad consent choice as an aisignal_ad_consent cookie and local storage entry, and could save aisignal_adblock_override in local storage. Nothing on the site reads these any more; the cookie expires within a year of being set, and you can delete them at any time.

You can control or delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings. If you block our cookies, you can still read AI Signal, but signing in will not work.

When we share data

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with:

  • Service providers who power infrastructure such as hosting, databases, and email delivery.
  • Sign-in providers to let you access your account using existing credentials, subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
  • Legal or safety needs if we reasonably believe disclosure is required to comply with law or to protect AI Signal, our users, or the public.

Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described above, or as required by law. If you delete your account or unsubscribe from the newsletter, we remove or anonymize related data within a reasonable time, subject to legal retention requirements.

Your choices

  • You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in each email.
  • You can sign out or manage your account through your profile settings.
  • You can change or clear browser cookie and local storage settings at any time.
  • You can turn off article reading measurement by enabling Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser.
  • You can request access, correction, or deletion of personal data where applicable law provides those rights.

Children's privacy

AI Signal is designed for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date below and, when changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
